Mr. Ameer Khan AMEER, ANAFAE English Master Trainer of ANAFAE facilitated a one-day Capacity Building Workshop for 21 English teachers from Kabul and Charikar at the ANAFAE Adult Learning Centre (ALC) in Kabul on September 27, 2018.
Taking an English test is a great way to find out what level your language skills are, in order to reach your goals in the future. But with so many English tests to choose from, it look so confusing. Is TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS or one of the Cambridge exams the best??
This key question was one of the one interesting topics discussed at this very constructive workshop.
Comparison between the different exams for non-native speakers
Mr. Ameer Khan AMEER, ANAFAE Master Trainer for the English language presented an approximate comparison between the different exams for non-native speakers of English and gave basic background information on the different advantages of the different tests. Very important criteria are the learners' interest and their practical application background, e.g. to use English at work or for university studies.
According to the Cambridge Assessment, young learners of English usually start with very simple things, like numbers and colours. They begin to learn vocabulary and grammar linked to everyday topics, like friends, social media, sports and games.
By learning these things, they can then read about their favourite topics, write about their friends or about other things they enjoy. Learning a new language is not just about remembering the words or knowing the grammar. People need to learn to do useful things with that language, developing the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking in order to apply in a specific context, or in important communications.
CEFR a basic tool
In foreign language learning, many teachers and other experts use the Common European Framework of Reference, usually known as the CEFR, when discussing the level that a student has reached.
The CEFR describes language ability on a scale of six levels, from A1 for beginners, to -A2, B1-B2, C1 up to C2 for those who have mastered a language.
The CEFR nowadays is used everywhere in the world and all Adult and Community Learning Centres of the ANAFAE Network will use the CEFR.
While introducing general English products, like Interchange for adults, Passages or Business English / Market Leader or the power packages of REAL in reading, writing, listening and speaking, the CEFR is the basic tool that helps to organize the content and development of classes and English studies.
During the workshop the English teachers also discussed the training curriculum for teachers and the recent Teacher Screening Process organised by the ANAFAE Master Trainers. In addition, demo classes were presented and discussed to measure or observe the didactic competences, learning style and teaching management skills.
The Capacity Building Workshop witnessed a sincere and enthusiastic participation, the English teachers shared their experiences, beneficial ideas, and actively took part in all activities of workshop, and found the result of the workshop advantageous for their personal and professional lives.
